Subject: sudden oak death

The pathogen (a species of Phytopthora) responsible for sudden oak death in Californa has been found infecting rhododendron in Santa Cruz county. This disease was found on European rhododendrons in 1993, but has not been found on European oaks. This is the first non-oak host report from California.
