Subject: Blackberry Rust confirmed in 14 Oregon counties

Blackberry rust, Phragmidium violaceum, continues to spread in Oregon. Since the May 2005 report of the rust on weedy Himalayan blackberry in two coastal Oregon counties, the rust has now been confirmed in 14 counties and on commercial evergreen blackberry plants. Surveys and monitoring are ongoing, in addition to host range studies to determine if other native or commercial blackberries are susceptible.   


The 14 Oregon counties: Coos, Curry, Douglas, Lincoln, Clatsop, Columbia, Clackamas, Multnomah, Yamhill, Marion, Polk, Linn, Benton, and Lane.
