Subject: Detection of Globodera pallida in Finland
Date posted: May 24, 2002
Source: European Standing Plant Health Committee (ESPHC)
The white potato cyst nematode, Globodera pallida (Stone) Behrens, is present for the first time in Finland. At a recent meeting (Feb. 18-19, 2002) of the ESPHC, Finland discussed potential control measures and a possible monitoring survey in and around the affected area. Globodera pallida is distributed throughout most of Europe, North Africa, and South America. It has been found in Canada, but is not known to be established. The nematode's main hosts are in the family Solanaceae, including tomato, aubergine, and potato, on which G. pallida is a serious pest.
