About the detection: As part of the actions applied by the National System for Phytosanitary Epidemiological Surveillance through the Preventive trapping program for exotic fruit flies, an adult specimen of Mediterranean fruit fly Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) was detected in the Port of Manzanillo, Colima on April 6, 2021. Therefore, the action plan to eradicate this pest has been implemented.

 

Actions: The National Service for Agri-Food Health, Safety and Quality, through the Plant Health Directorate, has started phytosanitary actions, such as delimitation and eradication, setting 426 traps in the Municipality of Manzanillo and fruit sampling. As a result, 9 specimens have been detected in addition to that initially detected.  Based on this and according to the International Plant Protection Convention standards, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) is considered a quarantine pest, transient, actionable and under eradication in Mexico.
