Report:
Potato Wart Disease (PWD), Synchytrium endobioticum (Schilberszky) Percival, has been confirmed by the CFIA in Prince Edward Island (PEI) in a 18.2 ha potato field intended for processing. All harvested potatoes were processed or destroyed and all equipment was cleaned and disinfected under the authority of the CFIA.
The CFIA has implemented official controls on the field and restricted movement of equipment and material from the field to prevent the potential spread of the plant disease.
Under IPPC standards, Potato wart is considered to be present, only in some areas of Canada (NFLD, PEI), and subject to official controls.
