About the detection: As part of the surveillance activities conducted by the National System for Phytosanitary Epidemiological Surveillance in Mexico, four plants of Mexican lemon, less than three years old, were detected with citrus cancer (Xanthomonas citri) on a non-commercial area. It was found in foliage in a communal land of the rural area of El Sabino, Municipality of Matamoros, State of Tamaulipas.
Actions: The National Service for Agri-Food Health, Safety and Quality, through the Plant Health Directorate, has started incursion delimitation through phytosanitary surveillance.
Based on this and according to the International Plant Protection Convention standards, Xanthomonas citri is considered to be a pest that is “transient, actionable, and under eradication in Mexico”.
