The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is implementing new phytosanitary import requirements to prevent the introduction of Lobesia botrana, the European grapevine moth, into Canada. A new Directive, D-13-03, outlines these requirements and is intended for those wishing to import regulated commodities from countries where L. botrana is present. It is also intended for use by CFIA staff, the Canada Border Services Agency, and National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPOs). New requirements for various fresh fruits came into effect on July 4, 2016. Requirements for kiwi fruit and for other products such as plants for planting and fresh cut herbs will be coming into effect in fall 2016.
Lobesia botrana is absent from Canada and is currently a regulated pest.
