Report: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has completed all potato cyst nematode (PCN) soil sampling and testing for the 2011 seed potato crop, and PCN was not detected.
Over 44,000 soil samples were collected and analysed as part of Canada’s 2011 national PCN detection survey. Through the continued support of Canadian seed potato growers and other stakeholders, the CFIA tested approximately 78 per cent of the 2011 Canadian seed potato production area.
Under IPPC Standards (e.g., ISPM No. 8), the Potato cyst nematode, Globodera rostochiensis, is considered present (only in some areas) and subject to official control in Canada.
