Report:

Effective November 17, 2015 the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) removed the Cupertino area of Santa Clara County as an Oriental fruit fly (OFF) quarantine area.

To prevent the spread of OFF to noninfested areas of the United States, APHIS implemented the OFF quarantine in the Cupertino area of Santa Clara County, California on June 23, 2015, to restrict the interstate movement of regulated articles from that area. Since then, APHIS has cooperated with the California Department of Food and Agriculture and the Santa Clara County Agriculture Commissioner’s office to eradicate the transient OFF population through various control actions, including high density trapping, fruit removal, eradication control measures, regulatory quarantine activities, and foliar bait sprays near the detection sites.

Eradication was concluded after sufficient time passed without finding additional OFF in this area. This removal of the quarantine area is reflected on the following designated website, which contains a description of all the current federal fruit fly quarantine areas:

Under IPPC Standards, Bactrocera dorsalis is considered to be a pest that is absent: eradicated in Cupertino, Santa Clara County, California.
