Report:
Duponchelia fovealis Zeller (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) was found in San Diego County, California in a pheromone trap on July 1, 2010. This moth is native to southern Europe and North Africa, and feeds on a wide range of commercially-grown host plants, such as corn, rose, pomegranate, geranium, poinsettia, pepper, and azalea. Larval feeding results in reduction in yield and quality of host plants. Delimiting surveys have been initiated to define the current distribution of this pest in the United States.
Under IPPC standards, Duponchelia fovealis is considered to be a pest that is transient: actionable, under surveillance in the United States.
