Report:

On October 10, 2006, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency confirmed the presence of Chrysanthemum White Rust (CWR) (Puccinia horiana P. Henn.), a pest of quarantine significance for Canada, in garden chrysanthemums at a floral shop in the Vancouver, BC area.  CWR is a serious fungal disease of chrysanthemums.  It's introduction and spread may result in crop losses and may impact export markets.

Traceback activities have identified the production facility that was the source of the infected plants. This facility has been placed under regulatory control and approximately 800 plants are being disposed of according to the CFIA CWR Eradication Protocol. No other commercial production facilities have been identified as having infected material.  Retail establishments that may have received infected plants from the production facility have been inspected and eradication measures taken as required by the CFIA CWR Eradication Protocol.

Le 10 octobre 2006, l’Agence canadienne d’inspection des aliments a confirmé la présence de la rouille blanche du chrysanthème (Puccinia horiana P. Henn.), agent pathogène justiciable de quarantaine au Canada, dans des chrysanthèmes offerts à la vente par un fleuriste de la région de Vancouver (Colombie-Britannique). L’introduction au Canada de cette grave maladie fongique des chrysanthèmes pourrait conduire à des pertes de récoltes et nuire aux exportations.

L’installation de production d’où provenaient les plantes infectées a été retracée. Elle fait désormais l’objet de mesures réglementaires, et l’on procède à la destruction d’environ 800 plants conformément au protocole d’éradication de la rouille blanche du chrysanthème élaboré par l’ACIA. L’infection n’a été décelée dans aucune autre installation de production commerciale. Des inspections ont été effectuées chez tous les détaillants susceptibles d’avoir reçu des plants infectés du producteur touché, et les mesures d’éradication nécessaires ont été prises conformément au protocole de l’ACIA.
