On July 2008, an outbreak of Maconellicoccus hirsutus was detected on parota and hibiscus plants, soursop, plum, nance, mango and lime trees from the urban area of the Municipality of Acapulco de Juarez, Gro. Monitoring actions took place through direct sampling and pheromone trapping to delimit the pest presence; also, cultural, chemical and biological control measures were established through the release of the predator Cryptolaemus montrouzieri and the parasitoid Anagyrus kamali. Training and outreach activities were also provided to control and confirm the pest.
Nurseries and farming areas are also being monitored and there have not been detections of the pink hibiscus mealybug.
