Report:
The National Service for Agri-Food Health, Safety and Quality (SENASICA) confirmed the presence of Pierce’s disease (Xylella fastidiosa) in vineyards in the Valle de Calafia, municipality of Ensenada, State of Baja California and the municipality of Parras de la Fuente, State of Coahuila, Mexico.
Pierce’s disease was detected with satellite imagery by the Plant Health Directorate, National System for Phytosanitary Epidemiological Surveillance. In order to eradicate the disease, sampling and efforts to remove infected plant material, as established through the Work Plan against Pierce’s disease, have been intensified.
Under IPPC standards, Xylella fastidiosa is considered a pest that is present, only in some areas where grapevine crops are grown and transient, actionable and under eradication.
