Title: Update on the red palm mite in Mexico

Report: As part of the actions applied by the National Phytosanitary Epidemiological Surveillance System in Mexico, the red palm mite (Raoiella indica) was detected in the Municipalities of Tizimin, Rio Lagartos, Chemax, Temozon, Mococha, Kaua, Tinum, Dzindzantun, San Felipe, Dzitas, Uman, Valladolid, Progreso and Merida in the state of Yucatan; in Benito Juarez, Solidaridad, Lazaro Cardenas, Isla Mujeres, Tulum, Cozumel, F. Carrillo Puerto and Othon P. Blanco in the state of Quintana Roo; Campeche and Holpechen in the state of Campeche, as well as in Centla, Comalcalco, Pariso, Jalpa de Mendez and Cardenas in Tabasco, Mexico.

The National Service for Agri-Food Health, Safety and Quality, through the Plant Health Directorate has initiated phytosanitary actions, such as a monitoring program, establishment of an integrated pest management program in the detected area and control of host movement.

Based on this and according to International Plant Protection Convention standards, Raoiella indica is considered a quarantine pest present in Mexico, only in some municipalities of Yucatan, Quintana Roo, Campeche and Tabasco.
