Title: Bactrocera dorsalis (Oriental Fruit Fly): APHIS Removes the Quarantine in Sacramento Area of Sacramento and Yolo Counties, California

Effective May 26, 2019, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) and the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) removed the Oriental fruit fly (OFF) quarantine in the Sacramento area of Sacramento and Yolo Counties, California.

On August 21, 2018, APHIS and CDFA established an OFF quarantine in an area of Sacramento, California, restricting interstate movement of regulated articles from this area to prevent the spread of OFF to non-infested areas of the United States. This action was necessary after APHIS and CDFA confirmed nine OFF between August 2 and August 21, 2018. Since that time, APHIS has worked cooperatively with CDFA to eradicate the transient OFF population through various control actions per program protocols. APHIS removed the quarantine area after three OFF life-cycles elapsed with negative detections in this area. This removal of the quarantine is reflected on the following website, which contains a description of all the current Federal fruit fly quarantine areas:

Under IPPC Standards, Bactrocera dorsalis is considered to be a pest that is absent and eradicated from the United States.
